Glam Publisher Halloween Party - Etiquette Lounge San Francisco

On Thursday October 25, 2007 we got the chance to meet our San Francisco publishers at the Etiquette Lounge for a night of drinks, h’orderves, and great vibes.

The Halloween themed party matched the Etiquette Lounge decor perfectly - it was all black and red with a touch of white. Several publishers around the Bay Area attended the event and we want to thank them for such a great turn out. Here are some images from Glam’s Publisher Halloween Party:

Meet the Publisher: SheFinds

Michelle Madhok is the Founder of SheFinds.com and MomFinds.com, two online publications that are highly respected in the online fashion world. She provides busy women with up-to-the-minute news on fashion and beauty so they don’t have to search themselves. We got the chance to catch up with Michelle to see what her life is like as the Shopping and Fashion Expert for SheFinds.

Let us in on 5 fun facts about you!
1. I met my husband when I made a new year’s resolution to go on 100 internet dates. He was number 20! You can see our wedding as profiled in The Knot Magazine.
2. I was featured in Footwear news for my enormous shoe collection.
3. I am a corporate refugee – 10 years at FOX, ABC, CBS and AOL and now I commute from my bedroom to my home office at 6:30 AM every day.
4. I’m a native Northern Californian – with my dark hair, red lipstick and bossiness everyone thinks I am a born and bred New Yorker.
5. I almost went to get an MFA at the University of Iowa in 1998. It had always been my dream to be a fiction writer. I got in to the prestigious fiction graduate program, went to Iowa, rented an apartment, came back and had a panic attack. I simply could not picture myself in Iowa trying to write fiction in the middle of the winter when the internet boom was taking off. Instead I went to AOL which eventually led to my launching SheFinds in 2004. You can see the writing piece that got me accepted to the University of Iowa program here.

What is your favorite item in your closet?
Barely worn Snakeskin Prada boots – scored on eBay for $50. Some woman’s husband put them up for sale. Boy was he clueless!

Fill in the blank: I can’t live without… Fit’n Free pizzas. I’m totally addicted. Thanks to Hungry-girl.com for the tip. Now I’ve given away my skinny secret to all the fashionistas! Oh and my husband…he’s awesome too.

shefinds_michelle-wedding.jpg

What’s your favorite gift to give?
The gift of time. I like to buy people certificates for dinners, massages – anything that’s an experience.

If you could max out your credit card at one shop, which one?
Bluefly.com for sure – there’s always something I want. I have to stop myself from looking.

What is one thing every woman should own?
An investment handbag.

What inspired you to start your blog/site?
While working toward my master’s degree in marketing from Northwestern, which has some of the best consumer behavior experts in the country, I learned how to recognize what people want and understand why they buy. After college, I spent three years with CBS Broadcasting New Media helping the company to start CBS.com, when I received a call from AOL, which at the time was the center of the universe for Internet content. They wanted me to revamp their editorial content for women. I took the job, changed the content based on extensive research into what women want online, and within a year we went from about 150,000 to 10,000,000 unique users per month.

One of the things that kept hitting home is that women are split in half… one half is the woman who is CEO of her home – she goes to work, pays bills, gets kids to soccer practice and plans dinner, and the other half is the woman who wants a bubble bath, a glass of chardonnay and time to have her nails done. Women are time-starved. My goal is to help women use the Internet to add time back into their lives and fulfill their desires to look and feel better about themselves.

While working in D.C., I used to shop at the outlet malls for friends who didn’t have time to shop for themselves. So after five years at AOL, I started thinking… say you want to buy black pants. No one was telling you the best place to buy black pants on the Internet. Shopping magazines like Lucky were popping up, but the online content did not exist, so I created SheFinds.com and then later – at the request of my mommy friends – MomFinds.com.

If you could be anywhere right now, where would you be?
New York City – I love this town.

Who is your celebrity style mate?
For casual – I love Jennifer Aniston – that girl can rock a t-shirt and jeans. For a more glamorous look - Emmanuelle Chriqui is my idol.

Name your favorite:

Cocktail: A glass of Viognier. Actually 2 glasses…
Color: I must admit, I dress in a lot of black. This is a bad idea since I live with a white cat.
Band/Singer: When I’m burned out at the end of the day I turn on the Frank Sinatra Channel on Sirius
Fashion Trend: I love wrap dresses from Kathlin Argiro and DVF.
Book: I just read Eat, Pray, Love – but is it bad to say that I thought the Eat part was the best part?

Meet The Publisher: Coquette

She’s crafty. She’s stylish. She’s techie. And she’s the next Glam publisher to let GlamLive in on her personal stats! She’s Natalie Zee Drieu, the awards-winning designer behind Coquette. Natalie’s blog is as multi-talented as she is, Coquette features commentary on fashion, accessories, beauty, tech/gadgets, DIY crafts and inspirational style. When she’s not spotting this season’s trends or knitting her latest creation, Natalie is interviewing a-listers from funny Amy Sedaris to Project Runway’s Chloe Dao.  Oh and if you’re in need of a delish Roasted Lemon Rosemary Chicken recipe, Coquette has that too. If you’re not already thinking “is there anything this girl can’t do?” keep reading and she’ll continue to impress….

Meet The Publisher: Stiletto Jungle

It’s that time again, time to meet another one of the fabulous publishers of the Glam Network. As I told you earlier, I had the pleasure to meet this dynamic lady at a recent cocktail event, where she was rocking some hot highwaisted jeans, a tie-neck blouse and updating me on her obsession- the shopping blog she started about a year about, Stiletto Jungle!  As Editor-in-Chief, Stephanie Rahlfs has put together a great team of unique gals who contribute daily posts on shopping deals, star style, how to’s, beauty reviews and more!  Stiletto Jungle’s moto says it best: A shopping blog for fun, fashionable women who are long on style, but short on time! Now, learn more about the ”tourguide” herself, the woman behind the blog…

 stilettostephanie

Stephanie from Stiletto Jungle

Let us in on 5 fun facts about you!
1. I have a serious sweet tooth, with a particular weakness for imported gummy candies.
2. I’ve lived, for short periods of time, in both London and Florence and spent a total of over two months traveling through several other countries… but I’ve never once been to New York City.
3. I cried the first time I saw a Van Gogh in person.
4. I’ve testified before the California legislature, completed five jury trials, and advised the city council of the eighth largest city in the nation… all in 4” stiletto heels.
5. I colored my hair for the first time ever in 2005, and have changed the color five times since then. I think it’s an addiction. For the record, I’m naturally dark blonde.

What is your favorite item in your closet? It changes every time I buy something new, but right now I’m totally in love with my 7 For All Mankind “Ginger” jeans.

Fill in the blank: I can’t live without… 4” heels

What’s your favorite gift to give? Luxurious bath and body products—the kind people typically wouldn’t purchase for themselves.

If you could max out your credit card at one shop, which one?  Barney’s Co-Op

What is one thing every woman should own? A slim black pencil skirt that fits like it was made for her and her alone.

What inspired you to start your blog/site? As a twenty-something attorney with a little money to burn, but no free time to engage in the sport of shopping, I came up with the idea to create a site for women like me. I dreamt up an online shopping magazine made especially for fashionable, professional women who finally reached a place in their life where they have some disposable income… but suddenly have no time to spend it. It was important to me to create a place that was fun and fashionable, packed with great finds for real women, extremely well-edited, and complete with links to where you can shop for featured items right on the spot—so you don’t have to waste a minute of your lunch hour. After a full year of hard work I’m close to my dream site, but I keep thinking of new ways to improve.

If you could be anywhere right now, where would you be? Florence, Italy, eating gelato in the courtyard outside of the Galleria degli Uffizi.

Who is your celebrity style mate? Katie Holmes—the new and improved version.

Do you have any hidden talents?  Not really. I keep all of my amazing talents right out in the open where I can keep an eye on them.

Name your favorite:
Cocktail: lychee martini
Color: green
Band/Singer: right now, Mika… but I’m fickle when it comes to music.
Fashion Trend: high waist denim
Book: That’s really tough. I love books. Reading Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus totally changed my perception of the world, but this week I’m re-reading (for the third time) Lauren Weisberger’s Everyone Worth Knowing, which I adore. What can I say, I’m a walking contradiction.

Big thanks to Stephanie for participating in the GlamLive Meet The Publishers series. I look forward to chatting with her again soon (hopefully at another network cocktail soiree), and stealing some of her fab style tips!

Stay classy,

Annie
