This is pretty ingenious.
What it is: Dansk’s Cafe Blanc Urban Picnic, a microwave- and dishwasher-safe porcelain dining set–complete with plate, bowl, and salt and pepper shaker–that clicks into place on a bamboo tray.
Why it’s cool: Billed as “cafeteria chic,” it’s sort of a modern update of a 1950s TV-dinner-tray setup–i.e. designed for noshing casually on the sofa rather than sitting for a formal meal at the dining table. While I don’t have a TV, I do have a tendency to eat while sitting collapsed on my couch with a plate poised precariously on lap, lacking as I do either a dining room or a table.
Why I felt the need to share with you, dear reader: Because this will make your life easier, and bring a bit of formal grown-up-ness to the admittedly kind of juvenile act proceedings. Check out this little piece the Times did on Urban Picnic awhile back, which gives more insight into the design.
Lap it up! –Jen Renzi
There’s a matching cheese plate, too, for those (read: me) who prefer to make an entire meal out of brie and gouda:

I am a fan of eating trays too. With the flower, this model is perfect to serve a meal to a sick roommate.
Another use: The bride can throw an intimate lunch with her bridesmaids where each bridesmaid can leave at the end with her own tray as a token of affection.
