This 2008 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Chicago was the biggest to date with 900 exhibitors. It’s more than a person can reasonably handle in a weekend. I wore my comfortable shoes and did my best to find the top five new products within the three buildings that held the show. Looking back I wish I had worn a pedometer.
Cabinetry: Greenfield Custom-Select Cabinetry showed their New York Collection offering cabinetry with an inset door that is 1” thick (5/4 nominal size). This is an industry first for a mid-range priced cabinet. The extra thickness gives the doors more relief and luxurious styling.

Hardware: Richelieu unveiled cabinet hardware with Swarovski Crystals in their new Exclusive Collection. You can select a knob with a single square crystal for a little bling or an extra-large knob with 16 crystals for maximum sparkle. Finish choices include chrome, old silver and burnished brass.
Appliances: American Range introduced their Hybrid Range. This Professional-Style Range is an industry first combining gas and induction cooking with a step-up burner configuration. The elevated rear burners gives the cook easy access to the sauté pans placed on the rear burners. It is available in 24”, 30” and 36” sizes. The 36” range offers the largest convection oven cavity on the residential appliance market.
Refrigeration: Gaggenau’s latest advance in under-counter wine storage, the RW-404, offers two independently adjustable temperature zones for the storage of red and white wines. This stylish cooler features a glass framed stainless steel door outside, beech wood trays for 41 bottles and dimmable LED lights that can be switched on to showcase the wine collection inside without fear of raising the internal temperature.

Plumbing: The Morphosis Omega Shower System from Jacuzzi might possibly give you the most sensuous shower of your life. This stunning shower system incorporates a curved teak seat, massaging pebble flooring, with endless shower combinations from soft rain shower to invigorating body sprays all encased in a sleek glass panels. Electronic controls further enhance the showering experience with adjustable lighting and temperature monitoring. See more Jacuzzi pics.
