Happy Fourth of July!!
I hope you have a fun day planned with all of your family and friends. I can’t wait for the BBQ!
The best bit of decorating you can do today is to display an American flag. I love walking down a street and seeing flags hanging from every porch. How can you not get that warm, fuzzy feeling? The flag symbolizes more than patriotic pride; I think it’s one of those things that makes a house a home. The decorating expert, Mary Emmerling, says “When my flag is out, everyone knows I’m home.”
Before you hang your flag, there are a few things you should know. Here are some flag-waving tips from the American Legion’s Flag Code.
*The flag should only be displayed in the open from sunrise to sunset, unless properly illuminated.
*The flag should not be displayed during inclement weather, unless you have an all-weather flag.
*When the flag is displayed from a staff projecting horizontally or at an angle from the window sill, balcony, or front of a building, the stars should be placed at the peak.
*When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the stars should be uppermost and to the flag’s own right, that is, to the observer’s left. The stripes may be displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall.
*The flag should never be displayed with the stars down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
*The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground.
Have a great holiday!
