Going Green for Christmas Décor Ideas
By KIM LAPHAM 12.11.2008
HGTV’s design expert Libby Langdon knows the value of a beautiful space that is as easy on the earth as it is on the pocketbook. Thus, she forwarded us these creative eco-friendly ideas for seasonal décor, which utilize transform readily available items into photo-worthy holiday backdrops. –Glam Living Staff It’s a Wrap! – Creative Gift Wrap Ideas Kids Catalogues Paper – This time of year we all get so many kids catalogs with brightly colored photographs of toys and kids Christmas items that a few pages taped together make adorable and eye catching wrapping paper. Daily Newspaper – Black and white newspaper makes great wrapping paper—try matching up the story on the paper with the gift or the recipient, tied with a red ribbon and a sprig of holly and you have an eco-friendly, elegant, and witty gift! Ribbon Replacement – Use twine or jute string instead of ribbon and replace the bow with sprigs of red berries or green holly leaves and berries. Thanks, Libby. Hare two tricks I use regularly: Re-gift your wrapping– Keep boxes, bags, wrapping paper and ribbon and reuse it when you need to package a present. Decorate with nature–I often tie dried flowers, leaves, twigs, or stones onto gifts with raffia. It’s a rustic-chic look that goes especially well with brown paper bags as wrapping paper.
