When you send your honey off to work with a flirtatious little love note, it shows him how much you care. But putting a hot pink, heart-shaped post-it in his lunch bag or briefcase might be a bit embarrassing. These collar stays make a short, sweet, and sexy statement. You can choose a naughty or nice message just for him. They’ll stay close to his heart, while you stay on his mind. Available at RedEnvelope.com, Set of 12 Collar Stays $39.95. Cool Coat RacksBy LAUREN BARTH 01.27.10Wish for “Frosty Fridays” in BostonBy LAUREN BARTH 01.27.10
Remember the Ground Round? (Am I aging myself by asking that?) When I was young(er), I used to beg my mom and dad to take me there for the “Penny a Pound” dinner promotion. Basically, the price of a child’s meal was his or her weight in pennies. To be honest, I was pretty “solid,” so my parents weren’t getting the best bargain. But I digress. I thought it was awesome. And so the little kid in me is super excited about “Frosty Fridays” at The Colonnade Hotel in Boston. Now through March 31, guests reserving the two-night weekend package will pay a rate for their room that is the equivalent of the outside temperature on Friday night, based on the 5 P.M. reading by the National Weather Service. If the temperature is 19 degrees on Friday night, guests pay $19 for their first night stay and a special rate of $295 for Saturday night. How cool (pun intended) is that? The “Frosty Fridays” package includes a double occupancy room, and the choice of two tickets to either the Old Town Trolley Tour or admission and skating rentals at The Boston Common Frog Pond Skating Rink; hot chocolate for two at Brasserie JO and overnight parking. Book your weekend getaway to Boston and think frigid thoughts. You’ll bid the winter woes farewell when the temperature plummets. The Colonnade Hotel has provided genuine Bostonian hospitality to residents and visitors for more than 38 years. A beloved Back Bay landmark whose opening launched the neighborhood’s renaissance in the early Seventies, The Colonnade is home to the city’s only roof top pool, to the award-winning Brasserie JO, and to a host of remodeled function rooms and the hotel’s grand ballroom, providing the setting for many of the city’s memorable business and social events. The Colonnade Hotel is within walking distance of Newbury Street and many of Boston’s finest shops, museums, galleries, and landmarks including Hynes Convention Center, Symphony Hall and Fenway Park and is located just minutes from Logan International Airport. For more information or to make reservations please call 800.962.3030 or visit www.colonnadehotel.com. Sweet Treats for Valentine’s DayBy LAUREN BARTH 01.26.10

Live in the TreesBy LAUREN BARTH 01.26.10
Yesterday, I showed you pics of an incredible and unique home … And today, while browsing the web I found more fabulous photos of charming tree-house “homes.” And, guess what? You can spend your vacation in one of these quirky sky-high cottages. They’re part of TreeHouse Point, a vacation lodge in Issaquah, Washington. The dreamy destination was created by Pete Nelson, world-renowned tree-house builder and his wife, Judy. This place is straight out of a fantasy. I would so love to spend a cozy, whimsical weekend living in the trees. I could really use the chance to reconnect with my inner child. Sitting PrettyBy LAUREN BARTH 01.26.10
Wouldn’t you just love to take a nap on this delicious double-seat chaise? It’s so luxurious and cushy. And it’s the perfect size for two … But it’s far too fancy for cuddling up with popcorn and a movie. This plush and posh piece is meant for eating truffles and reading poetry and feeding each other grapes. Sigh. Available at Horchow.com, $3,199. This is beautiful … Hostess With the Mostess has some seriously chic photos of a glamorous Gossip Girl inspired party. It sounds like it would be kitschy, but this motif, created by event planner Carolyn Chen, is not at all cheesy or over the top … In fact, there are only a few Upper East Side touches that scream Blair and Serena (i.e. headband party favors!). Other than that, it’s just flat-out fabulous. With a black, white, and pink palette, the décor is perfect for a shower, wedding, or schmancy dinner party. A Unique and Magical HomeBy LAUREN BARTH 01.25.10
I just saw this over on Cup of Jo, and had to share it with you. How extraordinary and magical and mysterious is this place? It was created and built by a Welsh man who now lives there with his wife and two sons. It looks like a giant tree house. Wouldn’t you just love to camp out there for a night, and drink wine and sip hot chocolate and tell stories and secrets and play board games? There’s something very romantic and enchanting about this humble little home … |
