Style Made Easy: Inspiring Ideas and Projects

matthewstrip.jpg

While I was an editor at Country Home magazine, I had the privilege to work with so many talented people. One that rose to the top of the list is stylist extraordinaire, Matthew Mead. I always loved my trips to his studio in New Hampshire because I always left inspired and with something new I wanted to collect. Not only does he have an eye for beautiful objects, he also has an amazing knack for transforming ordinary things into fabulous creations. Matthew’s work appears monthly in various publications, but lucky for us, we don’t have to wait that long. He’s recently relaunched his website, matthewmeadstyle.com, to be bigger and better than ever. His tagline is “Fresh Ideas for Modern Living” and Matthew’s Collecting, Entertaining, Style, and Favors sections definitely deliver on that promise. I especially love all of his storage solutions—they make me want to try, once again, to get organized.

This fall, also look for Matthew’s Entertaining Simple book, scheduled to hit Williams-Sonoma mid-October and additional bookstores in November. You can see a preview on his website.

Feeling Crafty? Pretty New Kits from Martha Stewart

bouquet.jpg

I’m not really crafty, but I’ve found myself enticed into the handmade world once again with the promises of beautiful flower bouquets and charming glitter cards. Martha Stewart has just introduced two new lines of crafting projects and supplies at, believe it or not, Wal-Mart. Yes, Wal-Mart!

Along with fun things like glitters and paper punches, the Martha Stewart Create collection includes scrapbooking sets, kids’ projects, and kits for making cards, jewelry, flowers, and more. I think the tissue paper flowers, pictured above, almost pass for real! Martha Stewart Celebrate is wedding central with ready-to-use favors, decorations, and invitations. My favorite is the white eyelet theme.

The collections are available at more than 3,500 Wal-Mart stores and many products are also available at www.walmart.com. Prices range from $1.88 to $24.97–amazing!
