The Daily Bean: Perky News for Coffee Addicts

By LAUREN BARTH 09.02.11

Hold on to your mugs, caffeine connoisseurs, I have two percolated pieces of news for you…

1.) It’s September. (Duh.) But what does that mean for you?… Why, the return of the pumpkin spice latte, of course! The beloved “autumny” drink is back at your local Starbucks. So grab your Ugg boots and run to the coffee shop round every corner (literally) for a delicious sip of the season.

2.) Famed West Coast, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, opened its first NYC store this week at 39th and Broadway. Give it a try, New Yorkers. (I say go for the Vanilla Blended with extra vanilla. Yum!)

So, which shop would you go to tomorrow morning? I’m torn!

5 Labor Day Entertaining Tips From HGTV’s Thom Filicia

By LAUREN BARTH 09.01.11

Want to spice up your soiree this Labor Day weekend. Thom Filicia, HGTV personality and acclaimed interior designer, shares his top five tips for hosting a fabulous alfresco fete.

Use Lots of Color
While red, white, and blue fit with the Labor Day theme, don’t be afraid to add plenty of other hues to your décor. Try colorful candles and floral arrangements to spice up outdoor table settings for this last holiday shindig.

Kick Back and Relax
Add color, texture, and patterns to your outdoor space. Roll out beautiful, colorful cotton rugs or place big comfy floor pillows outside. Invite your guests to relax on their well-deserved day off in this casually stylish setting.

Get Functional Trays
Use trays instead of placemats so that you can easily carry food and drinks.

Serve Iced Beverages
Iced coffee and iced tea are staples for many people during the summer months. Stand out with Brew Over Ice K-Cup portion packs for your Keurig Brewing Stystem and make refreshing iced coffee and iced tea at home. Show your guests how quick and easy it is to brew delicious iced beverage.

Set Out Summer Snacks
Before summer comes to a close and you have to pull out the recipes for fall seasonal ingredients, enjoy one last party with your favorite summer treats. Serve a variety of summer fruits to give guests healthy snack options. Watermelon, peaches, and blueberries are always a hit.

Create an Ambiance
An outdoor fireplace can be a wonderful addition to any evening party – especially during Labor Day weekend when the summer is winding down and it starts to cool off at night. They’re easy to find an can help extend your party outside from day to night – plus, who doesn’t love a s’mores.

Crocodile Chic: The Lacoste Home, Beach, and Bath Collections

By LAUREN BARTH 08.31.11

This morning I took a trip to the beach and  caught a quick cat nap at the Lacoste Home, Beach, and Bath Collections press preview. Capturing the casual and sporty spirit of the iconic brand, the lifestyle line features colorful palette and, of course, the distinctive Crocodile. The Lacoste Home Collection is comprised of two product collections, Casual and Club, which include sheets, duvets, throws, coverlets, comforters, euro shams and cushions as well as decorative and floor pillows.

I’m loving the large and bright over-sized beach towels.

Lacoste added a lovely “eggnog” color to their bathroom collection.

Okay, I didn’t really snooze… But how much did I want to cuddle up with that sweater blanket?

Due to popular demand, Lacoste has reintroduced the 75th anniversary crocodile pillow.

Easy Entertaining: Plan Your Next Affair With CaterBid.com

By LAUREN BARTH 08.30.11

Let me be frank… Planning a wedding sucks. I’ve been coordinating mine for the past six months and I’ve come to a few conclusions: it’s expensive, it’s time-consuming, and it’s highly overrated. I am three and a half weeks away from saying “I Do,” and I’m a stressed out, pimple-ridden disaster.

Here’s the thing… I’m an editor – not an event coordinator, and there’s a distinct difference between the two: I like to go to events, not plan them. Finding the right vendors – from florists to DJs to caterers is a dauntingly tedious task. So when I was recently introduced to the newly launched web site CaterBid.com, I was intrigued (and sort of annoyed that it was too late for me to try!)

The Priceline of event planning, CaterBid offers a completely new way to book events by providing a virtual marketplace for caterers from all over the country to approach potential customers and bid for their business. The site gives users a convenient way of saving time and money by organizing fabulous parties at affordable price points — and it’s completely free to use from browsing to booking.

Perfect for planning parties of all sizes (from birthdays to corporate soirees), CaterBid also offers free party planning advice to all of its clients through its exclusive Concierge service. It’s like having a your own virtual event planner… which leaves me with one curious question: Where was Caterbid six months ago?!?
