Jenny McCarthy swears she’s not the party girl she portrays. And beneath her bubbly exterior, exaggerated facial expressions, and larger-than-life personality, she’s a beach-loving homebody with an affinity for nature specials. I caught up with the ever-so jolly Jenny at the opening of Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium in Times Square, where she talked about her summer plans, sang Beyoncé, and finally put some rumors to rest.
So this is the Ripley’s Odditorium. Is there anything odd about you that you think people would be surprised to hear?
That I’m actually extremely private and very calm in my real life. People think that I’m the party-woohoo-crazy girl that I portray. And I’m not. I’m actually very intensely, privately spiritual at home. It might seem odd to people.
So what’s your ideal night then? What do you do at home?
Watch The Deadliest Catch or watch Man vs. Nature. I like a lot of the Discovery Channel shows. National Geographic shows.
What are you wearing? How did you decide on this dress?
I have a little store by my house Belle Gray that Lisa Rinna owns, and I always go in there and go “I have an appearance,” and they throw me a dress, and this is it.
And you’re jewelry?
Bought it myself!
So you bought both rings yourself?
(Singing Beyoncé) “I bought it!”… People thought both of these were something special – and they’re special to me because I freakin’ bought them!
Are there any rumors you’d like to put to rest?
Yeah. I’m completely fine not having any more children. I love mine, and I love giving him all of my attention. And there will be no wedding! You know, Goldie and Kurt have it made, and that’s who we kind of try to strive for!
Any fun summer plans with Jim?
Beach , beach, beach, beach, beach. We’ll try to do more without swimming with our clothes on. Sit and do nothing, stare at the ocean, and go ‘ooooooohhhmm.”
You do a lot with Weight Watchers. You’re looking amazing. Any nutrition tips?
You now what really helps: fruit and vegetables introduced that into my normal everyday. Before, it would just be kind of fill up on meals. And now it’s fill up on fruits and vegetables. And still enjoy pizza.
What’s your summer beauty ritual?
(Fanning her underarms.) Deodorant. Shave and wipe. Um… I still Mystic Tan – just to kind of keep an even glow, because sometimes with regular sun bathing you get patchy. So that’s kind of a secret to what the girls kinda do in LA anyway.
Tell us about your new book?
It’s called Louder Than Words. Its my first serious book. It’s about healing my son from autism. He’s great! Read the book!
