A large man with a booming voice screamed “there will be no entry or re-entry at this point!” Ah, yes. Just as anticipated, the fire martial closed down the post-ESPYs soiree twenty minutes into the celebration, replacing the massive line of ticket-carrying guests with a massively angry and anxious mob. This was going to be a long night. And it didn’t matter that I was press or that the man behind me worked for ESPN. No one – and I mean no one – was allowed inside until the venue cleared out a bit.
Suddenly, Mike Tyson approached the front of the line. Rolling my eyes, I waited for the bouncer to suddenly change his tune and roll out the red carpet for the intimidating boxer. But, instead, he looked Tyson straight in the eyes, and said “We’re at capacity. You’ll have to wait.” Ouch! Mike Tyson just got denied! The fire martial became further agitated when a crowd of fans surrounded Mr. Tyson begging for autographs. Judging by the fury in Mr. Fire Martial’s voice, Mike had caused a class-A fire hazard.
Within a few minutes, things calmed down, and I was allowed to enter the cavernous venue. I immediately realized what all the fuss was about. Hundreds of people hobnobbed about sipping on bubbly, nibbling on fancy foods, and soaking up the luxuries of the VIP lifestyle. There was also a boxing ring in the center of the party where a live match took place throughout the fancy fete. (I avoided the spewing sweat and blood at all costs – I like my champagne sans bodily fluids, thank you very much.)
Mulling around I spied many a famous face – mostly athletes who came to celebrate their victories, and support their friends. Peyton Manning, LeBron James, and many more A-list athletes danced to the music, obliged fans with autographs, and clinked glasses with their teammates.
While I didn’t see LeBron’s co-host enjoying the festivities, I knew he was there. Earlier in the evening, Jimmy Kimmel told me about his party plans, “Well, I’ve got my parents here and every time I do something like this half the family comes out from wherever they live. So I have to entertain them and try to get them into a car together, then try to get them to a restaurant, then try to them all back home and out of my hair, But I’ll go to the after-party but I’ll probably have my parents with me. I wish I was an orphan. I really do.” Does this comedian ever miss a beat or what?
I forced myself to leave the fun and return to non-VIP reality. There was lots of voice recorder transcribing to be done! So, with that said, stay tuned to GlamScene throughout the next week for lots of interviews with the stars.
P.S. Pardon the current photo. There were no cameras allowed! And this was the only photo I got before I got the glaring eye of security guards. Hopefully, I’ll get my hands on some professional shots… Stay tuned! xo
