A Chat With Tori Spelling

Tori Spelling is a very busy woman. As a wife, mother, actress, producer, reality star, and innkeeper, Tori gives new meaning to multitasking. And now she has another job to add to her impressively eclectic résumé: She’s launching her second line of jewelry on the Home Shopping Network. Tori chats with Glam about her designs, family life, and a few of her favorite things.

How did you first become involved with the Home Shopping Network?
I’ve had a high-end jewelry line called Maven sold in L.A. and New York boutiques for the past four years. I love and am proud of my designs but wanted to make them affordable and available for everyone everywhere to have. So I partnered with HSN and that became a reality.

Tell me about the process of designing the collection.
I design my collections, which consist of pieces I personally want to wear but couldn’t find in stores. I sketch my designs and am often inspired by vintage pieces I’ve collected over the years. I also like to work and design with metals. The weight of each piece is important to me, and the quality is my first priority. I love bold pieces that can complement an outfit or make it.

If you had to pick one favorite piece from the new collection, what would it be and why?
My favorite piece from my October collection is the turquoise and gold snake set. I think snakes are currently hip and in but also add a vintage look. So the pendant and matching ring are very bold and different yet very wearable. Rings are always fun to wear, to add pizzazz to any outfit.

You debuted the first collection on HSN in July. It was a big success and sold out in minutes. What was the best part about doing the live broadcasts?
The best part of doing the live broadcasts on HSN is knowing I am connecting with women across the country and that I am able to make my dream come true by sharing all my inspirations and designs with them. The response is instant, and I love being able to take calls from customers. I also love hearing what they think of my designs and what they respond to best.

See Tori Spelling debut the latest additions to her collection on HSN on October 30th at 1 a.m. and 8 p.m. EDT. Visit www.hsn.com to browse the complete collection.

Now that you’ve designed jewelry, do you think you’d ever launch your own collection of clothes or any other product line?
I always intended the Tori Spelling Collection to be a lifestyle collection eventually. I started with jewelry, but in the near future I hope to expand into handbags, belts, shoes, and clothing.

What’s the best gift anyone has ever given you?
My husband gave me our son! Hands down the greatest gift in the world.

With such a jam-packed schedule, what do you do to unwind and relax?
I hang out with my son and just watch new life through his curious eyes. I could stare at him for hours—it calms me and really puts life into perspective. My husband and I also enjoy cooking together, giving each other massages, and watching movies in bed. I also love walking our dogs.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure is horror movies. The cheesier the horror flick, the better. I love renting them and getting really scared!

What do you think is the biggest surprise about motherhood?
The biggest surprise is just how much you could possibly love another human being. Until you have a baby and hold it in your arms for the first time, you just can’t comprehend the overwhelming love you feel. It’s off the charts!
