The Tribeca Film Festival festivities kicked off last night with the high-profile premiere of Baby Mama …. And Glam was on the red carpet for the arrival of A-list (and hilarious) stars like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Chevy Chase, and Steve Martin. Truth be told, we almost weren’t on the red carpet! The Festival PR folks tried to deny us with a haughty “I’m sorry, but you’re not on the list? Did you even get a confirmation email?” Good thing we never leave home without our best-friend and trusty gadget: the blackberry. And even though they sheepishly opened the red ropes for us (upon me shoving my electronic email confirmation in their faces), we were forced to stand at the end of the very long carpet.
And while we didn’t have a prime locale for interviews and exclusives. We did have a hot spot for watching and calling out celebrity scoop! Here are my keen observations from the Baby Mama premiere. (Oh, and stay tuned for some video clips, and an interview with Amy Poehler!)
Kristen Bell was the first star to sashay down the red carpet in a green little frock. (Perhaps a nod to Earth Day!) The Forgetting Sarah Marshall (have I mentioned how much I love that movie?!?!) gal only stopped for photographs. Look who’s getting too big for her britches. Back in her Veronica Mars’ days she would KILL for press. Suddenly, she’s too good for exclusives! Just teasing you Kristen … You rule. (Um, I don’t want to get on the Gossip Girl’s *$%# list!)
Molly Shannon is super skinny. Who knew? She’s all bones. Almost unrecognizable in a little black and white dress. Even the PR peeps (same smart flacks who tried to turn me down) asked if she had tickets before they allowed her to enter the venue.
Steve Martin just waved and walked down the carpet. Steve Martin doesn’t need to do press. He’s Steve Martin – an icon, a legend, the one-and-only. What’s with those fedora hats though? Someone needs a stylist.
Seth Green brought his dad to the affair – for his birthday. I asked him who was funnier Tina or Amy? “Who’s your favorite baby-mama?” “Are you kidding? They’re both hilarious!,” he replied. (The PC answer.)
Signorney Weaver. Random. What are you wearing?!? Quit dressing so matronly. You’ll show your age. Gasp!
Like a proud papa, Robert DiNero escorted his wife down the red carpet and into the theater. (Tribeca is his baby after all. I guess that makes him the baby dada.)
Holland Taylor, you know her as the snobby mom on Two And a Half Men looked ‘fabulous darling.’ I chatted with her about Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, their recent Vanity Fair shoot, and other hilarious hot topics. Dare I ask “Can women be as funny as men?” Ms. Taylor rolled her eyes and said “I dare who ever thinks women can’t be as funny as men to spend a day with me and my friends!”)
SNL alums Rachel Dratch and Chris Kattan made their way down the carpet – sans taking advantage of press ops. (Really, really? Are you sure you don’t want to do press Chris … Rachel?) 30 Rock pal Judah Friedlander (what a weirdo) took his sweet time making his way into the theater.
Finally, Tina and Amy approached. Of course by the time they made it half-way down the carpet, their respective publicists dragged them into the theater (leaving the rest of us high and dry). Amy did get suckered though. There was a duo of 8-year-old “Scholastic” reporters half-way down the carpet, and when they called out her name, she couldn’t help but be charmed by their cuteness factor. (Hey, I’m cute too!) … But I’ve got other valuable qualities too. I’m savvy/sneaky/immoral. I snuck up behind the “adorable, learning-is-fun” student reporters, and stole their interview. (Gotta do whatcha gotta do. I make no apologies.) As I mentioned, stay tuned for a video! (And a few other mini Q&As comin’ your way!)

You must need to step up your game Lauren, if a couple of “12″ year olds have a better spot on the red carpet than you (stealing the story?)…or maybe you should have just shown up on time? Or maybe it could be that glam.com just isn’t GLAM enough to warrant the attention…
Amy Poehler Rocks!!!
