Last night I spent three hours on the red carpet outside the famous NYC Ziegfiled Theater wishing, hoping, and pleading (with publicists) for a brief moment with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt at the premiere of A Mighty Heart.
Despite my burning desire to speak, spy, and drool on them, I refused to have any expectations. I’d be lucky just to snap a photo on my cell and call it a night.
First of all… They are, officially, the nicest celebrities in the world. If Brad and Angie’s charity work doesn’t give it away, maybe this will: they stopped and signed autographs for just about every person on the fan line. They shook hands, gave hugs, touched babies, shared laughs, posed for personal pictures, etc. etc. etc. Now if only they’d be so gracious with the press… Hmmmm. I had my doubts.

I swear… That hot head of hair belongs to Brad.
Well, they made it half-way down the press line, and then were briskly escorted away for a full-cast photo. Angelina’s publicist literally pulled her away in the middle of an interview. She apologized and actually looked sincerely sorry!
While it became more and more clear that I wasn’t going to have a second with either one of these mega-superstars, I had the fortunate spot of being right by the theater entrance where the cast stopped for their final photo. This is where I was able to spy some “action”…

• Angelina, in a $26 black velvet gown and crystal-studded stilettos, is indeed looking a little skeletal these days. The busy mom/moviestar seems frail. With her hair in an elaborate up-do, she reminded me of a fragile grandmother (albeit a gorgeous granny.) But there was something about her velvet dress, her mature mane, and her skinny little frame, that had me thinking she could fall and break herself at any minute.
• When Brad and Angelina took their “couples” photos, she held on to him really tight. Now, I’m no body language expert here, but she clutched him like she meant it (whatever that means) and kept rubbing his back. How cute/needy is that?!?

• The movie’s director told me that he’s most surprised by “how normal they are… Angelina is an actress and a mom, and she does both jobs incredibly well.”

• Angie’s costar, Archi Panjabi, says that Angelina was very protective of her on the set. She also said she was surprised by “how simple she is.”
• Right as the dazzling duo was about to enter the theater, Fran Drescher runs up to Angelina and gives her a huge hug. Who knew they were friends?!?!

• Brad and Angie bought popcon and a soda for the movie. How cute is that?!? Love it when celebs do the whole “real movie experience” while dressed to the nines.
• I did see Dijimon Hounsou run the carpet as the movie was about to begin. I shouted out to ask him for one quick question… He looked at his publicist/escort and said “I’m sorry! She’s the boss of me!”

xoxo,
Lauren
P.S… Here’s one more “mug shot” for the road!
