Interview With Jessica Stam

Last night, the super-chic and classy Jessica Stam hosted an event to benefit Charity. The simply named organization seeks to raise funds and awareness to educate the world about global issues concerning poverty. In its first initiative called Charity: Water, they are selling $20 bottles of water. And while that might seem like a hefty price tag for a simple glass of H20, 100 percent of all profit goes directly to building freshwater wells and supplying clean water to impoverished communities in Africa.

GlamScene was able to chat briefly with Ms. Stam about her involvement. We also touched on holiday plans, fashion favorites, and New Year’s resolutions…

How did you become involved with this organization?

Well, a friend introduced me [to the organization] just over a year ago, so he told me a little bit about the event, and it was something that I believed in, and that’s how I got involved.

What would you say to people who want to get involved? How can they help out and learn more?
You know the Internet is always a great resource. If you are passionate and you want to get involved and help out – you know research in that way is always a good start.

What are you wearing?
Vintage Halston and the shoes are Christina Louboutins.

When it comes to your attire, what comes first fashion or comfort?

Comfort. These are my favorite fancy shoes. I’m usually a sneakers, jeans, and tee-shirt, everyday [kind of girl].

What’s your New Year’s resolution?
My New Year’s resolution? I don’t actually have a New Year’s resolution. I’ve never really had one stick before.

What are your plans for this holiday season?
I’m going to Canada to be with my family.

Anything especially fabulous on your holiday wish-list?
You know, I just want to see my family and have some down time.

What’s your favorite seasonal tradition?
Giving presents to my little brothers.

Finish this sentence: When in doubt of what to give, my go-to gift is____________.
Electronics.

Angels in the Hamptons?

India just gave us the scoop on a haute Hamptons hobnobfest with the Victoria’s Secret angels! The event celebrated the re-launch of “Secret Garden” from the VS Beauty Collection. (See GlamBlush for the deets on the decadent products plus some pretty pics!)

Karolina Kurkova and Selita Ebanks flew to the party destination, an exclusive Sag Harbor estate, via private helicopter (oh to be a supermodel!)  where they danced the night away to DJ Cassidy’s tunes. The dynamic and drop-dead gorgeous duo partied alongside VIP guests like David Blaine, Sophia Bush, and Maria Menounos. Here are some fun, fab pics from the fantastic fiesta. Enjoy! xo

The Alluring Ana Paula

ana.jpg

Who is the ravishing and exotic model featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue? The one with those piercing eyes, that beautifully bronzed skin and an envy-inducing figure?

I know… because I had the chance to chat with the absolutely gorgeous girl! It’s Ana Paula. And she has something to celebrate. She is the only model to get a three-page spread next to Beyonce’s feature in Sports Illustrated.

And I can tell you with confidence that she is so much more than a stunning face and a killer body. She’s an articulate, sharp, fun-loving and kind-hearted humanitarian… Read for yourself!

Tell me about growing up in Brazil? Do you miss it there?

Growing up in the Amazon is sometimes difficult to explain. It was an amazing experience. I really miss the animals, the rainforest, the food…everything! I love going back to visit.

How does it feel to have the only 3-page spread next to Beyonce in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue?

I was blown away when I saw the photo, since this was a 17-hour production and I was coming down with a fever and flu! I was relieved that the pictures turned out so well.  Since it was a special music issue, it was also an honor to be featured alongside so many great artists and musicians…like Beyonce!

When/what was your big break in the modeling industry?

When I did the YSL couture show in Paris two years ago…and of course Sports Illustrated!

What one person do you wish to emulate? Who is your idol and why?

My sister. She is an amazing person and I admire her in every sense. I also admire Tyra Banks because she is multi-talented, and is a true beauty inside and out! A few other idols are Muhammad Ali and Pelé, because of their great achievements!

Who are your favorite fashion designers?

Zac Posen, Esteban Cortazar.

What are your most coveted beauty products?

Volvic water, Day Long (Swiss sun lotion.)

What is your #1 secret to beauty?

Get as much sleep as possible and drink a lot of water!

You love the outdoors and sports… Tell me about your favorite pastimes?

I really enjoy being outside!  Kite-surfing is my favorite sport.  I love the water and the beach!  And when in NYC I love to go bowling and dancing!

Tell me about your involvement with global conservation programs?

While attending a dinner for Conservation International, I became very emotional when Harrison Ford talked about how the next generation will not be able to enjoy and see all the wonders and beauty of nature. Since I enjoyed the environment so much while I was growing up in the Amazon, I became passionate about this issue. I have been contributing my time and efforts towards their cause, and I hope that more people will steadily join this great organization.

How do you keep in shape? What’s your exercise regime?

Kite-surfing, yoga, going to the gym and trying to be active everyday!

Where can you find the best Brazilian cuisine in Manhattan?

Casa Restaurant and Churrascaria Tribeca.

What is your favorite…

Food? Rice, beans and a nice crispy juicy Brazilian steak!
Secret indulgence? Condensed milk!
Article of clothing? My plain suede leather jacket.
City in the world? Munich.
Store? Intermix.
