I made an acquaintance at the Health Content 07 Conference on Monday. In typical fashion, we introduced ourselves, talked about what we do and what we used to do. I described my past life and the fact that I had started a non-profit 4 years ago to help low-income youth. I told her it only lasted 1 1/2 years and I had to dissolve it because I was unable to raise enough funds to keep it afloat. I quickly added that it was okay, “I learned a lot from the process.” She replied, you don’t need to qualify it, “I once wrote a novel that will never appear in bookstores, but I wrote it because it needed to be written. I may even write another one soon.”
I was really struck by this comment.
How often do we measure ourselves, clinging to the concept of win or lose, succeed or fail. By doing so, we discredit the process and journey itself.
