Kick Start Your Week: Be Complaint Free

On Monday’s here at GlamSpirit we’ll be offering simple suggestions or baby steps that can help you live a more balanced and whole life.

Starting today, if you so choose ~ stop complaining for a week. This concept got lots of attention when Pastor Bowen appeared on Oprah with his goal to raise people’s consciousness. You can see what he suggests (click the link above) or just pay careful attention to how you speak and only let positive things pass through your parted lips this week.

Here’s a little example of what can happen when this simple shift is put into action:

The setting: At dinner with my fiance, in a busy restaurant.
The food: It took an unusually long amount of time for the food to arrive.
What could have happened: Angry at the wait staff, complaining, making a scene, leaving the restaurant. Sometimes I just get angry when my expectations aren’t met.
What happened instead
: I took a deep breath let go of any “expectations”. I actually thought about it and was pleased to have a little extra time to digest my appetizer before the main course arrived.
When the food did arrive: I wasn’t crazy about it.
What my fiance said: “Mmmmm, this is really yummy.”
What I could have said: “I don’t really like it”
What I said instead: “I’m really glad that you like it.”

The result: This made my fiance feel good; it allowed him to enjoy the food that tasted good to him. It allowed me to take my attention away from not liking the food and focus instead on feeling happy because someone I love was enjoying something and feeling good. Overall, we left having a positive dinner experience and a pleasant evening.

If you give this a try, or have done this for yourself, let us know how it goes.

A side note: In the span of creating this post alone I caught myself complaining to someone in the hallway. Um, yeah. Ooops! This is tougher than I thought…
