A neti pot is handy little device born in India that has been used in traditional yoga and ayurveda to help clean and clear the nasal passages. It can be particularly helpful for those with sinus congestion, allergies, asthma, common cold or irritation in the nasal passage (from dirt, molds, dust, dander, etc). In India it has been used as a routine way to cleanse this part of the body and improve breathing. A neti pot looks a bit like a small teapot. Someone in the family stored mine among the rest of the tea pots (and why not, right?). I grinned when I found it there.
To use:
1) Fill the pot with lukewarm water (approximately 8 oz)
2) Add 1/4 teaspoon non-iodized salt and stir until it is dissolved in the water. Note, the water should have the same level of saltiness as tears. Too much salt could give a slight burning feeling.
3) Tilt the head slightly to one side (over a sink) and pour the salty water into one nostril. Breathe through the mouth. The salt water will come through and out the other nostril.
4) Repeat on the other side.
5) Exhale several times out the nose and blow the nose to remove any remaining water, mucous, etc.
Here’s a great video demonstration:
Voila! You now have a natural remedy to relieve and cleanse your sinuses.

That’s funny, I did a post about neti pots a few weeks ago when I had a terrible sinus flu. It’s called “Neti Pots are from Heaven” lol There’s a link to a very pretty little neti pot I found at Peaceful Company. The demonstration is very helpful!
