Friday Fave: An Enlightened Light

TGiF! Enjoy one of our top picks in today’s Friday Fave…

Fun, funky, and good for the environment, our favorite pick for this week: Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs! You’ve seen them and you’ve heard about them, you know that they’re eco-friendly and that they save you money on your monthly energy bill. Hopefully, you already have these nifty little bulbs shining brightly (and efficiently) throughout your home. But if haven’t already jumped on this planet-friendly bandwagon, let’s get you on it.
Check this out:

  • If every house in this country replaces just one 60-watt incandescent bulb with one 15-watt compact fluorescent bulb, the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions would be the equivalent of taking ONE MILLION cars off of the road. (Yes, you read that correctly).
  • An ordinary incandescent bulb lasts less than 1,000 hours on average (about one year of use at three hours per day), while a compact fluorescent bulb lasts about 10,000 hours. You do the math.
  • Changing your 5 most-used incandescent bulbs for compact fluorescents can save you an average of $60 a year on electricity.

So what are you waiting for? Switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs is quick and easy; but most importantly, this simple act has more impact than any other home energy-saving measure.

Now the big question is: what are you going to do with your annual extra $60?
