Kick-Start Monday: Stepping Toward Your Personal Goals

On Mondays we like to kick-start the week with simple but inspirational ideas to improve your life. Today we’re going to explore the benefits of setting goals.

Setting a goal is an excellent way to bring focus to an area of your life that you would like to improve, and it also gives you a way to measure those improvements. Try setting some goals for yourself, but be sure to start small – just pick something simple to focus on this week.

The purpose of this experience is to create awareness – you will become mindful of something that is important to you and what you need to focus on to improve it. The simple act of setting a goal immediately reduces stress because you begin to feel at ease just knowing that you have purpose and direction. In addition, reaching a goal helps you feel more motivated to develop new ones – it’s practically contagious! Setting goals, whether they are short-term or long-term, can help you become more optimistic and encourage a balanced life practice.

Here are some of my goals for this week:

• I will eat one additional serving of vegetables every day
• I will consciously think positively; my cup will be half full
• I will wash my face every night before bed (without any exceptions)

Notice that all of my goals are small, simple, and manageable. This is key! Realistic goals are much more likely to get accomplished. Slow and steady wins the race! At the end of the week, take a look at your goals and see which ones you were able to accomplish.

Reaching a goal feels so rewarding; it will most likely encourage you to set new goals for the following week, or maybe even some long-term goals. See what you can accomplish when you put your mind to it.
