Au Natural: Tea Tree Oil - Nature’s Antiseptic

Wellness on Wednesday is all about the natural you!

Over the past couple of years, I’ve grown increasingly devoted to Tea Tree Oil (a.k.a. Australia’s wonder remedy). This aromatic oil, extracted from leaves of the Melaleuca tree, contains powerful antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and skin soothing properties making it helpful for… well, anything! The list of uses for Tea Tree Oil is considerable, to say the least. But let me share with you some highlights…

• Heals minor cuts and scrapes
• Soothes and heals respiratory infections (cough, laryngitis, and bronchitis) and head colds
• Antifungal agent for fingernails, toenails, and ringworm
• Clears up athlete’s foot
• Soothes and heals skin irritations, such as sunburns, bee stings, and poison ivy rashes, blisters, and bug bites

Not bad, eh? And if that isn’t enough, you can try adding some to a load of laundry for a fresh, clean scent!

Tea Tree Oil is easy to find – you can pick some up at Whole Foods or most drug stores. It’s now an essential in my medicine cabinet and I never go on vacation without it. I highly recommend you get some too…you never know when you might need it!
