“The Well”: Thought-Provoking Lessons From Preposterous Movies

On Thursdays we take you to “the well” - your source for inspiration and how-to’s.

How to Change the World is one of my all-time favorite posts (thank you, Rebecca). I remember when I first read the words “If you ask for courage, life brings you opportunities to be courageous”—I was struck by this simple wisdom and its relevance in every aspect of life. Then I laughed as I realized it was from the movie Evan Almighty—a movie about a Congressman who is followed by animals and instructed to build an ark for an upcoming flood…. yup! A silly movie with a powerful message.

The other night, I caught about 5 minutes of this movie (having never seen it before), and it just so happens that it was the exact part of the movie with the potent quote. Coincidence? I rewound it (thank you, Tivo) and listened again.

Two nights later, I found myself watching Enchanted, a movie about a Disney cartoon character who is tricked into entering the real world (aka New York City). Another silly movie, another deep message (spoiler alert): the thing that you seek is not always what the universe sends your way. So keep your eyes, ears, and hearts open and be ready to receive.

Makes me wonder if I should be watching more children’s movies….?
