TGiF! Enjoy this week’s eco-friendly tidbit…
Last year, I took my first trip to Japan. In preparation for my excursion, I talked to a few friends who had recently traveled to the distant country and read through a Lonely Planet travel guide. I learned how to pronounce the essentials (konnichiwa, sumimasen, arigato gozaimasu), knew to expect red bean—and not chocolate—filled pastries, armed myself with small gifts to offer in return for kindness and hospitality, and was instructed to always carry a hand towel.
Why a hand towel? It seems that most of the public restrooms in Japan do not supply paper towels. Instead, everyone totes their own personal towel. At first, this seemed odd, but then it hit me – what a great idea! When I think of all the paper towels that are used in the US every day, I wonder why this simple solution has not yet been adopted.
So, in the spirit of the environment, I offer the idea of the ultimate eco-towel: a portable hand towel. Save some trees, spread the word, and carry your own!

That is a great idea! I live in Japan but don’t carry around a towel as most restrooms here have those automatic hand dryers. But I will do that when in the US!

I love that idea! There are so many great environmental ideas - really simple ones - like that and every time I get a new one, I’m over the moon!
