In ancient China, astrological observations were performed for practical purposes, such as keeping track of the civil calendar. Any anomalies in the celestial bodies were noted as an imbalance in the world and also as omens, either good or bad, for the current Emperor. The event of greatest concern, as you might imagine, was a solar eclipse.
With so much buzz in China these days and the Olympics starting in just one week, I wonder the ancients would think of today’s eclipse?
