Wellness on Wednesday is all about the natural you!

It’s cold and flu season; are you prepared? At the first sign of illness, mix up this magical concoction I just came across in a fabulous book, Well Being, by Barbara Close.

What makes this drink so magical? According to the author, ginger has warm, fiery properties that help combat winter chills and ward off colds and the flu; lemon adds delicious flavor as well as pleanty of vitamin C; and echinacea helps to stimulate the immune system. In addition, honey has tons of antioxidants!

So without further ado, here is the recipe:

Lemon Ginger Echinacea Elixer

2 quarts purified water
Juice from 6 fresh lemons
3 Tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
2/3 cup honey
20 drops echinacea room tincture

In a large pot, bring the water to a boil. Add the lemon juice and ginger. Let boil gently for 5 minutes, reduce heat and simmer for an additional minute. Pour into a cup, add echinacea, and stir gently.

This elixer can be enjoyed both hot and cold. Drink 4 times a day for optimal effects.

Here’s to staying well this holiday season!
