Wellness on Wednesday is all about the natural you!
Around this time last year, small itchy bumps started appearing on my skin. I didn’t know what they were but I was desperate to get rid of them. I immediately stopped using scented products and kept my cleansing routine simple. That didn’t stop the itching, though, and the little bumps soon spread all over. It was only after a trip to a herbal physician did the mystery get solved—I simply had dry skin.
In between the heaters turned on indoors and the chilly, dry air outside, our skin’s exposed to some pretty harsh environments. And after a long day, who doesn’t want to take a hot shower before quickly jumping into bed and snuggling under the covers? Well, it turns out hot showers are a big no-no for our skin, especially in winter. Instead, use warm water and pat, not rub, your skin dry. Moisturizing with a lotion or cream immediately afterwards will help lock in the moisture. My personal favorite is The Body Shop’s Shea Butter. It simply works. And before you step outside, don’t forget that sunblock. The days may be shorter and darker, but on a clear day, the sun’s rays shine just as strong as summer. Staying well hydrated is also important as water keeps the skin moisturized and flushes toxins out of the body. Say bye-bye to dry, cracked skin and hello to a soft, glowing you.
