Strut Away Stress

42-19759242

Of course when you’re under pressure, and feeling stressed, sometimes the last thing you want to do is go for a walk. You’re not alone, research conducted on the exercise habits of 82 women for 8 weeks illustrated that women often worked out less during weeks that were filled with stress, because it was just “one more thing to do.” But by participating in a regular walking program (or any form of cardio you enjoy), you can offset the long-term health implications of stress. Here are some tips to turn your walks into a stress reducer:

Fix your ‘tude: Tell yourself that walking will help you accomplish more on your to-do list. Regular exercise makes you feel better and helps you think more clearly so you are more productive.

Aim for the A.M.: Walking first thing in the morning gives you an opportunity to focus on yourself. When you know you’re going to have a hectic day, an early morning walk can bring answers and clarity.

Change of scenery: Walk down quiet streets or through a beautiful park. The more appealing your surroundings, the calmer you will feel. Make sure that you are always in a safe surrounding so as not to add any worry as you try to strut out your stress.

Walk anytime of day: Walking doesn’t only have to be scheduled during your work out. If your schedule is super busy, take advantage of a few spare minutes and head outdoors for a stroll, before or after lunch, or in between appointments. Five minutes of walking is enough to recharge your batteries.
