10waysIf you’ve just started a weight loss program, or simply trying to eat healthier, there are some basic tips that can help in reaching your goal. Forget the fad diets and utilize these tidbits as a sure way to help you in your efforts to lose weight or just feel great! For more tips on how to eat to lose weight, check out ThatsFit.com.

Fill up on fiber. Whole grains, fruits and vegetables, which all help increase satiety and fullness at each meal.

Be cautious about liquid calories. Limit juices and high-calorie coffee drinks. Instead, try swapping out your regular glass of O.J. for any whole piece of fruit.

Stay hydrated. Often times, hunger is confused with thirst, so staying hydrated will keep you from craving extra calories.

Practice smart snacking. Eating every three to four hours fuels your metabolism and prevents you from overeating at meals. Always include a portion of carbs and protein with each snack.

Avoid skipping meals. Eat regularly throughout the day for optimum energy levels and portion control.

howtoNowadays, many of us “outsource” basic tasks. Food is instant and ready-made, dry cleaners press our blouses, everything can be delivered, gardeners tend to our flowers, and tailors sew on our buttons. Though, there’s something to be said about a woman who makes it her business to do these things herself—not to mention it’s a recession, and don’t we all want to save a little money?

How To Sell A Button, written by Erin Bried (a senior staff writer at SELF magazine), is a practical empowering book that collects the treasured wisdom of grandmothers from all across the United States, as well as modern-day experts. It features more than a hundred step-by-step essential tips for cooking, cleaning, and entertaining.

This guide offers crash courses in tasks like: sewing on a button, roasting a chicken, tying a necktie, performing a basic waltz, mixing the perfect martini, hanging a picture, throwing a yard sale, and how to build a fire!

How handy! Grab your copy at Amazon.com for $10.20.

stubborncold

It’s not unusual for most adults to catch two-to-four colds a year, but when your annual cold count is above average, or your stubborn cough has been lingering on for weeks, it may be a sign of a weakened immune system, says Lisa Bernstein Lisa Bernstein, M.D., associate professor of internal medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. One of the prime suspects for a weakened immune system is stress, as well as getting less than 7 hours of sleep on a nightly basis.

Fortunately stress boosters double as immune system boosters! (At least that’s two birds with one stone, right!) If spending time with loved ones relaxes you, than schedule a last-minute family dinner this weekend. If the gym is your stress reliever, go for a walk on the treadmill, or a moderate session on the bike for 30 minutes, but don’t push yourself too hard. Here’s another great tip: have sex. Yes, you read correctly. According to Psychological Reports, having sex once or twice a week produces higher levels of a key antibody to help fend off the stress that is weakening your immune system.

Remember to get plenty of rest, wash your hands, and smile. For more tips on how to get rid of other stubborn health issues such as: sinus infections, Urinary tract infections, acid reflux, and strep throat, check this article on Self.com.
