Chic for Change

 maneater-threads.jpg

One of my favorite online shopping sites, ManeaterThreads.com, recently launched a program they call ‘Chic for Change’.  Every month they will be donating 5% of their sales to a different local or international nonprofit, with a focus (but not limited to) organizations that address women’s and children’s issues, the environment, animals, or international relief.  Thier beneficiary for the month of July is the American Refugee Committee, which provides humanitarian asistance and training to refugee communities and displaced people all over the world.  Tanya Zilinskas, founder of ManeaterThreads,  says ”I was drawn to  the ARC because of their work in Darfur, and I plan on giving to more organizations that assist in that region.  It’s truly disturbing what is going on there right now, and I think the more people who help with their money or their time, the better.”  Tanya also mentions, “I would really like the store to stand for more than jsut clothes, and when we have a good month, I want it to be a good month for someone else as well.”

Tanya, you rock!!!!  And so does her store, if you haven’t checked it out, definitely do.  She has an amazing eye and carries a perfect mix of designers including; American Retro, Jennifer Nicholson, Mara Hoffman, Mike & Chris, Fluet, By Francine, Rami Kashou, and many more.

Help make a difference!  ManeaterThreads.com

It is set into a knotted silk cord available in various colors, with each cord designating support of a unique cause.  The LOVECHARITY bracelet is available for $475 with $100 per bracelet benefiting its corresponding charity.  On LOVEDAY , June 8th, 10% of all sales from the LOVE collection will benefit the partnered organizations.

Big BBQ Buys from World of Good

As the summer months are fast approaching backyard BBQ’s are definitely on my mind. The one thing that I love buying is new and exciting backyard textiles, table top accessories, and anything else that catches my fancy. This year I’m thinking globally and you should too when buying accessories for the BBQ festivities. World of Good is a fair trade gift company that distributes great quality hand-made crafts and merchandise to many mainstream markets. There are so many wonderful products that are crafted by artisans to help sustain a means to support themselves and their families.

Here are some great finds that will definitely spice up your BBQ bash.colored-napkins1.gif

These colorful napkins are woven by the Cakchiquel people in a rural agricultural village in Guatemala. The sale of their products is used to send children to school. Cotton Candy Napkins

Moo-ve Over for Fair Trade Serving Set
These great salad tongs are crafted in the homes of artisans in the Ha Tay province in Vietnam and help create employment, reduce poverty and preserve cultural traditions. Moo-ve Over for Fair Trade Serving Set

Midsummer Light Candle Holder

This holder is crafted by teacher based in a small Bali village, who earns supplemental income for his family by handcrafting this unique design from real bamboo. Midsummer Light Candle Holder

The Latest Celebrity Must-Have Bag

 eva-longoria.jpg kristin-cavallari.jpg vanessa-minillo.jpg

Eva Longoria, Kristin Cavalleri, and Vanessa Minnillo have already picked up a must-have ‘Market Bag’

Yet another fantastic insider find thanks to the amazing crew over at Intuition in Los Angeles!  They have teamed up with International Rescue Committee (IRC) to help support education for war-affected children through this new must-have Market Bag.  The bags were created by Intuition founder Jaye Hersh and were clearly designed to make a difference.  When asked about the line of bags and the IRC she said, “I created my own company, Intuition, as a way to pay for my own children’s education - the money went ‘into-tuition’ - and now I want to help other children in need,” said Hersh, adding that these new plastic totes were inspired by the bags she once used to sell merchandise from the back of her car.

These Market Bags come in four different styles with the option of being monogrammed.  The interior is lined with a lightweight canvas, and each bag comes with a coin purse or luggage tag and plenty of pockets.  They make for a great book bag, shopper tote, or beach bag.

Market Bags can be purchased exclusively through www.shopintuition.com.  Retail prices range from $85-$100.  For each bag sold, Intuition will donate $35 to the IRC.  The ultimate goal of this awesome collaboration is to raise $175,00 for the IRC’s education programs around the world.

These bags are adorable, affordable, and support an amazing cause.  They also make great gifts!  Choose from one of these cute styles:

Facts:

Intuition was chosen by Time magazine as the best online shopping site in 2006.

Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a global leader in emergency relief, rehabilitation, protection of human rights, post-conflict development, resettlement services and advocacy for those uprooted or affected by conflict and oppression.
