Secret Garden

Remember when you were young and had a wild and vivid imagination…everything was whimsical, extravagant, crazy, and anything but impossible.

And now that you are an adult with responsibilities, headaches, and heartaches, you forget those innocent days. But now that spring is in full bloom take a day for yourself and retreat to your backyard, your own secret garden. While sipping lemonade and reading your favorite Jane Austen book (or whatever book catches your fancy) you gaze up, the sun lightly kisses your skin as the beams peak through the tall bamboo shading you from the outside world. The butterflies and hummingbirds fill your intimate garden space with a burst of color. The waterfall (you put in last summer) makes a subtle bubbling sound as the water flows ever so gently into the serene koy pond (you put in before the waterfall) in one corner of your peaceful sanctuary.

All these blissful elements don’t have to be exclusive to the backyard, you can also incorporate them into your wardrobe. By mixing and matching color, prints, and solid neutrals, your fantasy garden will no longer be a secret. Check out these picks!

White Party

The most fabulous (and famous) party of the year has to be hands down P. Diddy’s “White Party.”  A-listers, socialites, and music-moguls alike flock to the Hamptons wearing their finest in white haute couture, ready to hob-nob and rub elbows with the best of the best. You too can throw your own “White Party” shin-dig even if you don’t have an East Hampton estate to host the extravagant event. And even though guests of the hard-to-please Diddy will be turned away if there is nothing less than white head-to-toe, your exclusive soiree will be a little more lenient. You can insist on the invite that, “white is required” but by dressing up your pigment-less duds with minimal accents of vibrant color such as a yellow belt, big chandelier earrings, gold and patent clutches, and playful printed pumps, I think that even P. Diddy himself would be impressed. Check out these hot picks for your haute party!

I love this fabulous idea…creating your own invite!! With Papyrus Custom Printing you can select, edit, and print your very own one of a kind invitation!

Von Ruhtenberg

Ruhtenberg Handbags is a line I recently discovered through a friend and am totally impressed and blown away with at the amazing quality and detail put into each piece.  The designer, Tyler Lewis, was literally born a designer - growing up in Colorado she would dream up her own dresses which in turn her mother would then make for her out of silks the family collected from their travels - prety cool!

Each bag comes with some type of custom hardware such as Greek coin rivets and feather-shaped zippers.  Inside the bags are lined with vibrant colored 100% vintage French silk.  Crafted out of sumptuous leathers that only get better with age, the clutches and carryalls are all handmade in Monterey, Ca.

These bags are beautiful!  You can find them online at VonRuhtenberg.com

JET: Hoodies, Tees, & Thermals

jetsml.jpg

John Eshaya, women’s buyer and creative director of Ron Herman, started JET from his garage in 1987 after his boss at Ron Herman (then a salesman) complemented him on a pair of shorts he had made.  After making a few pairs for the store he knew he was on to something when they sold out almost immediately.  JET is now a full line of printed tees, sweatshirts, tops, dresses, and jeans that can be found at over 300 stores around the country.  Fans include Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, Scarlett Johansson, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera.

Here are some brand new prints on his highly coveted thermals and sweatshirts …. also try the sweatpants, they rock!

April In Paris

Bonjour everyone! My name is Sara Humphreys and I am an intern at Glam and frequently write lovely blogs on (the best blog ever) Glamspree. I am so excited to write this new entry because it has to do with the best spring break ever! (I know, totally, right?!?) Usually my spring break consist of homework, homework, and more homework. Ah yes, the life of a college student. But this year my parents surprised me with a fantastic vacation getaway to the fashion capital of the world, Paris, France! For 8 days I was absorbed in Parisian culture and taken away from the menial day to day tasks that were waiting for me back home. It was the best vacation and the experience of a lifetime. The people were delightful, the food was mouth watering, and the shopping, oh the shopping!
Everywhere we went and everything we did people were genuinely nice and outgoing. I don’t speak a lick of French other than the usual, “Bonjour, Au Revoir, Merci” and that’s about it. It seemed as long as you tried (with a thick gooey like voice) the French were more than happy to try and assist you. Most speak English so they were very patient as I tried to read off of the menu, simply saying, “We have an English version if you would like.”

Paris!

The markets had fresh produce daily and the bakeries had the sweet aroma of croissants, crepes and pastries. I ate breakfast at the corner bakery every day. My favorite: chocolate croissant with fresh strawberries and a hot chocolate.

Easter Sunday…So many people!

The two largest shopping centers in Paris are Printemps de la Mode (think Neiman’s, Bloomy’s, Saks, and Bergdorf’s all wrapped up into one department store with more runway  and red carpet apparel…I wish I could have taken a picture but security was real tight) and Galeries Lafayette (again, think all four). Printemps de la Mode has 7 levels of pure luxury goods and a café on the roof that over looks the entire city! The first level is the largest beauty department in the world with over 4500 products totally dedicated to beauty and body care. The 2nd level is devoted to housewears, and then the next 5 are devoted to clothes, clothes, and more clothes! The definition of haute couture lies within the walls of these department stores. Names like Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Celine, Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino, Sonia Rykiel, Missoni, Viktor and Rolf and so many more. There are also creative French brands such as Paul & Joe, Paul & Joe Sister, Tara Jamon, Vanessa Bruno, Zadig and Voltaire, and Kenzo are just a few of the very tempting fashion designers.

After leaving (tear) Au Printemps I looked like a kid in a candy store. A big wide smile and one shopping bag (I seriously broke the bank on just one purchase) with my favorite Parisian souvenir, a dark blue LongChamp handbag. Very Parisian.

Our last day in France we took the train up to Versailles to see where Marie-Antoinette laid her powdered-wig at night. What an amazing site to see. The Palace of Versailles included a church, an opera house, several apartments (living quarters), statue filled hallways, and several other rooms that were not shown on the tour. The grounds were exquisite and stretched for miles and miles. There were so many people visiting the palace that day it was overwhelming (much like the rest of the tourist spots).

I was so sad to leave. A week is definitely not enough time to really get a feel of Parisian culture. We did all the touristy things like go to the major museums: the Louvre, Musee de Dorsee; went to all the churches: St. Chappell and Notre Dame; and visited the famous land marks like the Eiffel tower, Napoleons tomb, and the Louis Vuitton Head Quarters (my favorite). The last night we ate at a small café just up the street from our apartment. It was quaint and quiet and a perfect ending to a perfect trip. It was a trip of a lifetime and I definitely cannot wait to go back!

Modern Day One-Night Stand Survival Kit

Hey ladies I know it’s hard to keep your “good girl” reputation when the urge to be a “bad girl” arises. But sometimes you just can’t help it.
Imagine, you’re at one of the hottest night clubs frequented by A-list celebrities and hot single guys. You’re drinking cocktails (free cocktails) and dancing to top 40 hits, when from across the room you lock eyes with this gorgeous tall, dark, and handsome man whose name you cannot remember (Chris? Jason? Ryan?…maybe). As you make your way over, bumping and grinding with randoms along the way, he grabs your hand and takes you to the nearest exit. Before you can text your friend, “Don’t wait up,” he has flagged down a cab and given the cabby directions to his place. You pull up to a pent house suite that over looks the city…just gorgeous…almost as gorgeous as Mr. Right Now. You both swagger into the building as the doorman gives you both a wink (kinda creepy, but you don’t care). You both stumble into the elevator and start  making out…ooh la la. The next thing you know, one thing leads to another and “Let’s get it on” by Marvin Gaye blares in the background. Fast forward to the next morning. Your head hurts, Mr. Right Now isn’t as hot as you remember (those damn beer goggles), and you just want to get out of there with as much grace and style as you possibly can. Well, have no fear…Sunny Merry creator of Ho on the Go has created the original overnight kit for the modern day one-night stand.
It includes everything you need to make your one-night bearable the next the morning. The kit includes a thong with Ho on the Go logo, 2 condoms, mini toothbrush and mini toothpaste, and an aromatherapy facial towelette (so you don’t look like you just partied like a rock star the night before). Easily travel ready and even easier to fit into your purse…so now you have no excuse!

survival-kit1.gif

ho_kit.gif

Planning an all girls trip to Vegas anytime soon? Or, are you tying the not and planning your Bachelorette party? This would be a great party-favor to pass out to your party guests. All of you and your single or non-single friends will really get a kick out of this kit.

I do agree that one-night stand stories are hilarious and will be inside jokes for you and your friends for years to come. But now instead of leaving off with an embarrassing anecdote, you can tell them how your survival kit saved the day…or the next day.

Denim For Your Guy

This summer is going to be haute, haute, haute! The heat, humidity, sticky and stifling weather makes us dread putting on jeans. Women have so many options, dresses, skirts, short shorts, longs shorts, capris, bermudas, and the list goes on. But for men, well, they really only have one, heavy shorts. Usually in denim, khaki, or an unseemly Hawaiian print. Yuck!

Well fret no more men, denim designer Paige Adams-Geller has come to the rescue. With her famed PPD Jeans for Men the collection has been taken to a new level of comfort, style, and perfection.

The collection offers two brand new washes that are available in four signature cuts that are made from an exclusive lightweight blend, only 9.5 ounce denim.

“Most denim is around 11 or 12 ounces but that is too thick for the summer,” says the designer, who noticed that the men in her life were in need of something lighter for summer. “I wanted to offer something light, breathable and comfortable.”

Pick from the new Retro Blue, a take on the all-American denim of the past, while Coal is a worn-down black wash.
doheny.jpg Doheny Straight Leg - With a low rise and a slim cut - these jeans are made for the guy with sensibility - as well as a love for fine tailored apparel.

normandie.jpgNormandie Skinny Jean - Inspired by the fitted jeans that grace the forms of some of the music industry’s hottest stars, these 5 pocket jeans take the Doheny style straight leg one step further, helping to narrow things down just a bit more.

stone-canyon.jpg Stone Canyon Boot Cut - This cut has a slightly flared leg with a lower rise that comes in an endless range of washes.

jrg.jpg JRG Relaxed Fit – This is definitely the “every man” jean. With a classic rise and slouchy fit, these jeans are the best bet for the office, a hot date, or a night out with the guys.

Where: Available at exclusive retailers and boutiques. Retails between $169 and $220. Check out Paige Premium Denim for a list of styles, cuts, and washes.
