Flavor of Frida
Frida Kahlo is one of the most influential female artists of the 20th Century. Even though her paintings often expressed sadness, loneliness, despair, sexual confusion, and extreme depression, the end result has been widely accepted and celebrated. Through unimaginable hardships, Frida painted incredible works of art. Her folkloric style was influenced by Mexican popular art, fantastical imagery, and magical realism that incorporated vibrant colors, exotic flowers and animals, elaborate jewelry, and most importantly, herself. I am really influenced by that of Frida’s paintings and artistic career and love to incorporate her different styles into my wardrobe. Check out these finds!
Amazingly enough, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SF MOMA) is exhibiting Frida Kahlo’s art by commemorating the centennial of this amazing artist’s birth. The exhibit lasts now until September 28th so if you are at all interested get down there now! On display are paintings that span her career, along with a selection of her own collection of personal photographs, most of which have never been on public display!
