Taylor Swift's 2024 Grammys Outfit Hinted At The Fortnight Music Video & Our Minds Are Blown

Taylor Swift does everything with a purpose — each lyric, red carpet outfit, and accessory has meaning behind it. When the singer wore the structured white Schiaparelli gown with black opera-length gloves to the 2024 Grammy Awards, Swifties everywhere were trying to decode the look. Was it a nod to her "Reputation" album, which has a black and white newspaper-themed cover? Many believed it to be so and thought that would be Swift's next Taylor's Version album.

One of the biggest Easter eggs was the Lorraine Schwartz watch choker around Swift's neck, which was set to midnight — almost as if it was written in the stars that her successful album, "Midnights," would win album of the year. But only after Swift announced that she would drop "The Tortured Poets Department" on April 19 did her 2024 Grammy choker finally make complete sense. And now, after watching the teaser for her "Fortnight" music video, the Schiaparelli gown has even more meaning to it than just a random fashion choice.

Taylor Swift has been giving fans clues about Fortnight all along

"Fortnight" is the very first song on Taylor Swift's long-awaited new album, "The Tortured Poets Department," and it's clear this one is near and dear to her heart. Ahead of the album's release, Swift shared on Instagram, "The first single from The Tortured Poets Department is............. Fortnight featuring @postmalone. I've been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever." A few hours later, Swift posted a teaser for the music video. In it, you can clearly see her costumed in a white gown very similar to her 2024 Grammy Awards dress, as well as the watch choker with a white fabric band this time — once again calling back to the many times she's dropped a big hint with her outfits.

In another scene of "Fortnight," Swift wears a Victorian-looking black dress with billowed-out shoulders and a pleated skirt, not unlike the dress Lana Del Rey wore to the Grammys. Arriving to the event together, it was a stark contrast with Del Rey in all-black and Swift clad in bridal white. It seems that Del Rey represented one version of Swift in the music video, and it could be why the "Down Bad" singer wanted her friend onstage with her when she accepted her album of the year award. Swift is the queen of Easter eggs, so we wouldn't be surprised.

Taylor Swift's Fortnight music video is clearly about her wanting to break free

In the little that we saw of the "Fortnight" music video so far, Taylor Swift is in restraints and trying to escape, which works in theme with the lyrics. The song begins with the lines "I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me." While fans may guess that the song is about Swift's ex, Joe Alwyn, the title "Fortnight" indicates a relationship much shorter than their six-year run. Many Swifties believe that several songs on the latest album are about Matty Healy of The 1975 and one Redditor asked of the "Fortnight" music video, "LOL is Post supposed to be a stand-in for Matty? Tattoos and all?" Other fans got a "Poor Things" vibe from the music video, which isn't surprising given that Swift is good friends with Emma Stone.

In a 2019 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Swift opened up about enjoying giving her fans Easter eggs. "I love that they like the cryptic hint-dropping. Because as long as they like it, I'll keep doing it. It's fun. It feels mischievous and playful," she shared. "Songwriters need to communicate, and part of communicating correctly is when you put out a message that is understood the way you meant it," Swift continued. When the "Fortnight" music video drops, fans will undoubtedly have fun cracking all the hidden codes the singer has left.
