New Year, New Job? Get the Perfect Beauty Look for a Skype Interview
By Valis Vicenty December 31,2012
With a new year comes a slew of new possibilities, and if you’re on the hunt for a new job, you’ll need every advantage you can get! Thanks to Skype, many candidates will be interviewed over the voice over IP software, but there are a few dos and don’ts to keep in mind, namely your beauty look! We recently got the rundown on blending an interview-appropriate face from celebrity makeup artist, Pati Dubroff.
Just like your background and your wardrobe, your makeup look should be kept simple. Fresh skin paired with a romantic eye and nearly nude lips are the ticket to letting your future employer see the real you without getting distracted by any interrupting calls, IMs, or emails.
Sexy Skin: Even if you’re using a high-quality HD camera you can appear blurred or flat, so you’ll need to balance to your skin. Use a matte primer if you have oily skin and a radiant primer or tinted moisturizer for dry skin to strike the right chord.
Conceal to Reveal: The camera can add odd shadows to your face making you look more tired than you actually are. Brightening under the eyes is key to eliminating those threats while you spot conceal where it’s needed.
Dark Romance: For work-appropriate bedroom eyes, Dubroff recommends first curling the lashes before mascara so the employers can look at your eyes properly when you speak to the camera (not the screen). Next you can use a deep eye pencil to smudge at the lash line for a bit of a lived-in look.
A Light Flush: Extreme contouring and pops of color aren’t the solution to standing out when neutral lips and cheeks and good lighting will work. A subtle sweep of crème blush on the apples of the cheeks along with a touch of tinted lip balm will be enough to flesh out your look.
Lights, Camera, Smile: Don’t forget to smile! You’ll be on camera the entire time, so a smile is a great way to show enthusiasm and confidence.
Best of luck to all of you jobseekers in the New Year!
