If awards season operated like your friendly, neighborhood movie theater, then this weekend would be your double feature. On Saturday, Hollywood recognizes the efforts of production teams in film, television, and new media at the Producers Guild Awards while the big precursor to the 85th Annual Academy Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, takes place on Sunday. While last year yielded some big wins for The Artist producer Thomas Langmann at the PGAs and the cast of The Help at the SAG Awards (Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer nabbed top honors), we’re excited to see who will dominate this year’s stage. Will Ben Affleck, George Clooney, and Grant Heslov earn a PGA honor for Argo or will they be trumped by Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg production of Lincoln? Can Jennifer Lawrence repeat her Golden Globes best actress win at the SAG Awards or will Jessica Chastain, who won the Globe for best dramatic female lead, still the comedy star’s thunder? The 24th annual Producers Guild Awards will take place on Saturday, January 26 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel while the Screen Actors Guild Awards will air live on Sunday, January 27 on TNT and TBS.
