Above you’ll find a short & sweet clip from last night’s Marc Jacobs‘ show. That’s Sonic Youth playing and the reason the clip jars a bit halfway through is because a certain famous, crimson-haired editor snagged my coat with her oversize It-bag as she scurried to her seat. (The show started promptly at 7:22 and was over by 7:35, leaving many a Marc Jacobs fan out in the cold.)
Whiplash aside, it was an enjoyable show, albeit a tad distracting to have the iconic band gyrating on stage while models strode by in plumped-up ’80s headbands, feather mohawks, Princess Leia-worthy draped gowns, as well as monastically conservative jackets and skirts in pale and metallic hues: Each tranquil piece distanced itself further and further from Jacobs’ spring collection of revealing, sexed-up pieces. The connection between the two styles–the musician’s gritty rock versus the new, subdued body-cloaking–isn’t easy to discern, but puzzles wrapped in enigmas are par for the course in Jacobs’ fanciful world.
