Barbie Gets New Designer Duds
By Nola Weinstein January 25,2010
Barbie is once again getting a designer makeover. The 51-year-old style icon has been dressed by everyone from Christian Dior to Donna Karan, she even had a full runway show in The Tent at Bryant Park last year, and now 12 of the CFDA’s top designers have used their iconic accessories to create one-of-a-kind Barbie Basics dolls. Each Barbie Basics doll comes wearing a little black dress and includes a stylish kit full of jewelry, scarves, etc. Tory Burch, Philip Crangi, Kate Spade’s Deborah Lyyod, Lorraine Schwartz, Isaac Mizrahi, Rachel Roy, Monica Botkier, Justin Giunta, Albertus Swanepoel, Betsey Johnson and Alexis Bittar all added their unique touch to the dolls. Johnson used her statement hoop skirt and a sequined bunny ear headband on her Barbie, while Bittar added his stunning stone details to the dress and topped off the look with one of his signature lucite necklaces. True Barbie collectors and fashion lovers will want them all! The dolls will be auctioned off on Ebay.com starting January 28th at 10pm EST and will run through February 7th. Proceeds from the sales will benefit the CFDA Foundation and the organization’s scholarship and educational programs. We suggest you bid, even if it means auctioning off your own Tory Burch Reva flats first! Mattel has released images of the 12 dolls exclusively to GlamChic so our readers can plan their bidding strategy early. I am voting for Isaac Mizrahi’s LBD. It is classic, elegant and the quintessential Black Dress.
