Jason Wu’s creations have a transformative power. For Spring 2013, the designer manifested sweet dreams and erotic elegance in looks that fused whimsy and edge. Inspired by the sexually charged imagery of Helmut Newton and photographer Lillian Bassman’s soft, ethereal photos, Wu delivered his own provocatively perfect take on the female form.

Playing with contradictory forces of seduction and innocence, Wu fused harsh details with softer fabrications. Leather harnesses and corsets added a bit of dominance to more delicate silhouettes. Wu also played with his palette. Veering from his usually rich color choices, he introduced a more restrained mix of black, white, navy, and his signature pop of pink. Cosmic embellishments had us wishing on a star that we’ll soon have occasion to wear his final look–a midnight chiffon show-stopper.
