In case you didn’t know, Diane Von Furstenberg, she-of-the-wrap-dress and globetrotting-style bar-raiser (hel-loo?! Have you seen those H.Stern knuckle-dusters?) is certifiably awesome, in pretty much every way that counts. And in just the past ten days she’s given us 3 more demonstrations of her awesomeness:

1) She unveiled her Wonder Woman-inspired collection for holiday ’08. The freshy, sporty line features bold hues and patterns that recall my grade-school sticker collection, and is sure to fly right off shelves come November. (Get it? Fly?)

2) Last Monday she held court at the star-studded Costume Institute Ball. With the Olsen twins as one of her 6 dates. And she brought a camera.

3) She recently posted her VIP candids for all to see on her online “magazine.”

There was a lot of sartorial splendor to be found at last night’s Costume Institute gala, most of it the kind of stuff only seen at the Oscars, society weddings, and other fantastical events. (Fitting reference eh? The A-list festivities were in honor of the new Costume Institute exhibition: Superheroes: Fiction & Fantasy, but more on that later.)  Highlights of the evening–including Hilary Duff posing as Fergie’s arm-candy and Victoria Beckham looking skinnier, scowl-ier, and more fabulous than ever–can be found on the Glam mothership but I thought I’d take a moment to point out this lovely little style snapshot:

Lately, only designer/celebrity/artist/DJ fashion collaborations have been able to turn style-savvy heads. (Comme des Garcons for H&M! Michel Gaubert for Longchamp! Murakami for Vuitton (again)!) But here at GlamChic, we don’t discriminate: Cheap, everyday items are just as likely to earn our stamp of approval as their high-concept counterparts. For instance, today we stumbled upon this little Grecian number at Target. While not labeled as one of the mega-store’s many darling guest designer collections, the piece references the runways’ goddess trend but, fortunately for us wallet-watchers, it comes with a super-friendly price-tag. Listed at $39.99, mighty Aphrodite herself wouldn’t be able to resist such an affordable piece.

For her March 26th arrival at Heathrow Airport, Bruni opts for Dior

Put down the binoculars: The search for the Jackie O.’s sartorial successor is over. This week, while accompanying her husband on an official state visit to the U.K., the new Mrs. Nicholas Sarkozy—a.k.a. former covergirl Carla Bruni—showed off her politically correct fashion prowess. By opting for head-to-toe Dior for every occasion—from de-planeing meet-and-greets to hitting up Westminster Abbey with the royals—Bruni transformed her role of France’s leading lady into an ambassadorship of Parisian fashion. Her suave, patriotic choice of Dior’s more conservative pieces is so spot-on that there’s really not much else to say except Merci Mme. Sarkozy et encore.

And speaking of mail order catalog highlights…in case you forgot (um, like I did) that Jane Birkin’s trendsetting daughter Lou Doillon designed a line for French mail order empire La Redoute (think Newport News with a francais accent), you can still scoop up one of Doillon’s designs online.

But if that doesn’t satisfy your Francophile cravings, check out the behind-the-scenes video of the catalog shoot. If watching at work, slip on your earbuds; the clip’s surprisingly good soundtrack may turn some heads.

Kate Moss & Karl Lagerfeld

There are few indisputable truths in the fashion world: That Black is always in is a classic. That Kate Moss can do no wrong nor ever look bad is pretty irrefutable. That Tights are not pants is another favorite. And there’s the unofficial yet unanimous agreement that Karl Lagerfeld is the best party-promoter on earth.

In a move that maintained his soiree status, the Chanel designer parked his tweed-covered party bus in London yesterday, showing his couture-like “Métiers d’Art” collection to the fashion set’s upper crust. After the runway show, Chanelophiles piled into Nobu to fete the French label and the enigmatic German who helms it. The gathering was less tea-and-crumpets and more tempura-and-champers, and when guests’ elbows weren’t plopped on the table (Emily Post is currently on her 166th rotation in her grave) they were rubbing up against their fellow fashion VIPs.

As per usual, the glitterati—which included current CC postergirl Claudia Schiffer, Mario Testino, Natalia Vodianova, and the pretty, pint-sized Emma Watson—greeted the designer’s arrival as the second coming of Coco herself. The dress code was—for those lucky souls who have the Chanel PR # on speed dial—black, white, and Karl all over. Except for Tom Ford that is; the designer wore himself, which sounds complicated, but to be truthful, was really quite chic.
